At C&C Driver Training, we prioritize the safety and education of new drivers. For those holding a G1 license in Ontario, it's crucial to understand the specific restrictions regarding highway driving.
G1 Highway Driving Rules
In Ontario, G1 drivers are generally prohibited from driving on highways with a posted speed limit over 80km/h unless accompanied by a licensed driving instructor. This includes most 400-series highways, such as the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), Highway 401, and Highway 406.
However, G1 drivers may drive on roads with speed limits of 80km/h or less when accompanied by a fully licensed driver with at least four years of licensed driving experience.
Permissible Highways in the Niagara Region
Within the Niagara Region, several highways have speed limits of 80km/h or less, making them accessible to G1 drivers under the appropriate supervision:
Highway 420: This 400-series highway in Niagara Falls maintains a speed limit of 80km/h throughout it's length.
Regional Roads: many regional roads in Niagara have speed limits of 80km/h or lower, providing suitable routes for G1 drivers.
Regional Road 1 (Dominion Road): Sections between Rosehill road and Lakeshore Road have speed limits ranging from 50 to 70 km/h.
Regional Road 3 (Garrison Road): Segments between Rosehill Rd and Regional Rd 124 (Central Ave) are posted at 50 to 60 km/h
Regional Road 18 (Mountain Rd): Portions between Queen Elizabeth Way and Regional Rd 73 (Fly Road) have speed limits of 50 to 80 km/h
Regional Road 81 (King Street/Main Street): Sections between Lincoln Ave. and Maple Grove Road have speed limits ranging from 50 to 701 km/h.
These roads provide G1 drivers with apportunities to gain experience under appropriate supervision without violating highway restrictions. Always ensure to verify the current speed limits and road conditions before planning your next road trip route.
The Importance of Adhering to Restrictions
These restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of novice drivers as they gain experience. Driving on high-speed highways presents challenges that require advanced skills and quick decision-making/ By adhering to these rules, G1 drivers can build confidence and competence in a controlled environment.
At C&C Driver Training, we offer comprehensive instruction to help G1 drivers navigate these regulation and prepare for their G2 road test Our certified instructors provide the necessary supervision for highway driving practice, ensuring compliance with Ontario's licensing requirements.
